Encoding issue

May 25 at 7:55 AM
Hi, thanks for a great tool!

However, I had a problem migrating a database containing international (Swedish) characters to Azure. It failed to encode correctly, running a Select after migration showed different chars than Select on the original db table. I can not figure out where I can change settings for that. As far as I understand it takes care of collation automatically(?) I tried migrating both to a db with default collation and to one with the same collation as the original database.

Hi,

You need to play with the BCP parameters. Edit SQLAzureMW.exe.config file and go to line 249 (or very close too). You should see:
<add key="BCPArgsIn" value="{0} in {1} -E -n -C RAW -b 10000 -a 16384"/>  <!-- BCP in command parameters -->
<add key="BCPArgsOut" value=""{0}" out {1} -E -n -C RAW"/>    <!-- BCP out command parameters -->
You can try removing "-C RAW" and see what happens. You can -w in place of -n. Anyway, look for BCP Utility for help.

Hope this helps,
George
